An estimated 15% of couples will have difficulty conceiving a child and as many as 33% of Americans will seek fertility treatments. Infertility and infertility treatments can have a major emotional impact on a couple and their relationship. Women seeking fertility treatment will often struggle with anxiety and depression as well as issues with identity and self esteem. How does one cope with the outside world while going through fertility treatment? How can someone decide that all options to resolve infertility have failed and it is time to stop treatments? To shed light on these very real issues couples with infertility face and how they can effectively cope even when the door seems to have closed on their dreams of starting a family, I will be having a conversation with psychotherapist, Dr Lauren Behrman, who works with couples going through infertility and adoption issues.
Dr Behrman is a Licensed Psychologist, mediator, collaborative divorce professional and parent coordinator in private practice in Westchester, NY with offices in White Plains and Katonah, and Midtown Manhattan, providing counseling and psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and adults struggling in life and relationships. Her practice is a mix of individual therapy with children and adults, couples and families facing challenges and transition in life and relationships. I provide divorce services that include Parent Coordination Co-parent Counseling with High Conflict Parents, Neutral Child Specialist, Process Facilitator and Divorce Coach in Collaborative Matters.
This is my eighth installment of “Mental Health Mondays.” Each Monday I will be having a conversation with my favorite mental health therapists so that you can better navigate emotionally and mentally during these very stressful times.
