Naturopathic Wellness Wednesdays: Yoga 4 Cancer Y4c

I was thrilled to interview celebrated author, speaker, master yoga teacher, and cancer survivor Tari Prinster.

As a cancer survivor, Tari founded @yoga4cancer and the Yoga4Cancer Foundation (501c3) in 2003, which brings Oncology Yoga to cancer survivors worldwide.

When Tari was 50, she started a yoga practice to ease symptoms of menopause. Then, after a diagnosis of breast cancer, yoga became a powerful tool for her to manage the daily challenges of treatment side effects. More than a way to stay healthy, yoga gave her a community and the emotional support and spiritual comfort so necessary for recovery and beyond.

Tari discovered that yoga poses and sequences had to be tailored to survivor needs and that conventional thinking in yoga, as well as Western medicine, had to change. Yoga teachers and health care providers need to be educated about cancer, the immune system, and the benefits of yogic movement and breathing. And teachers and providers need to talk openly and honestly about cancer with their students.

As I chat with Tari, I am excited to learn more about this oncologic yoga movement and how it is supporting cancer fighters and survivors everywhere.
