Dr. Ivy Branin: Naturopathic Anxiety Doctor in NYC
Occasional anxiety is normal. Perhaps you are having a stressful day at work, are planning a wedding or the MTA has added major delays to your morning commute. In stressful times our body sends “fight or flight” signals throughout our body. Our heart rate increase as does our blood pressure. But as soon as the event passes we are fine and we can go on with our day. When anxiety occurs daily it can interfere with our ability to enjoy social situations or be productive at work or school or even worse it can keep up us at night. Many of my anxiety patients have also suffered from panic attacks, social phobia, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or obsessive compulsive tendencies. At this point it might feel that medication might be the only answer because you can’t deal with the anxiety anymore.
What anxiety does to us
Though occasional stress and anxiety are normal, chronic untreated stress and anxiety can have a major impact on our relationships, ability to function at work or school, our sleep and even our health. In fact stress and anxiety can worsen or increase the risk of chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis, and cancer. Who gets Anxiety
Anxiety is the most common mental illness in the US affecting 40 million adults every year. Adults are not the only patients I see at my practice with anxiety. About 25% of children between the ages of 13 and 18 suffer from anxiety and many will continue to have anxiety throughout college and early adulthood. Women are twice as likely to experience anxiety then men.
How I can help your anxiety
As a naturopathic doctor in NYC, I have a process that determines cause of your anxiety. We will look at hormonal and nutrient imbalances, individual nutrition, behavioral patterns, and mental emotional factors that could be making you feel uncomfortable in your body, have racing uneasy thoughts or unable to focus.
Everyone’s journey is different. As a naturopathic anxiety doctor in NYC, I don’t use a one size fits all approach, nor do I believe an herbal form of “Xanax” is the solution.
At the end of our process, you will feel more comfortable in your own skin and have better focus to navigate life with ease and grace. All without drugs or dependence on a grocery bag of supplements.
